National Hoarding Awareness Week 12th- 16th May 2025
National Hoarding Awareness Week is an opportunity to create a greater awareness of the issues faced for those who may hoard belongings at high levels, and for those who work alongside them.
The key theme for 2025 Hoarding Awareness Week 2025 is Executive Functioning and whilst there will be wider learning available both locally and nationally, we would like to provide a brief overview of what this means.
Executive functioning is an umbrella term used to identify a wide range of cognitive functions commonly thought to be situated in the frontal lobes of the brain. This includes, for example: insight, attention, planning, organisation, initiation, generating ideas, inhibition, control of behaviours and emotions, problem-solving, evaluation, judgment and decision-making skills. If these executive functions do not develop normally, or are damaged by brain injury or illness, this can cause something called ‘executive dysfunction’.
